August 2016 - Summer Road Trip 2016 Part 2: Going-to-the-Sun Road & Logan's Pass
After a first restful night in the RV, we woke to beautiful weather. I made breakfast, woke the kids and we ate before getting our gear ready for a day exploring West Glacier.
After we were all ready, we left our campsite and headed out. As we were passing the gate entrance, we decided to see if we could switch our campsite for the night because we were on a slight slope and wanted a flatter site. We went to the ranger and asked and luckily she was able to find one for us. While we chatting with the ranger, I was able to get a picture of the sign that scared us last night
We headed back to our campsite and towed the RV to the new site. It took a while to set up so we decided to have lunch at the RV before heading out.
After a delightful lunch we drove to the Apgar Visitor's Center to catch the free shuttle to the Going-to-the-Sun Road and Logan's Pass.
While we waited for the shuttle the kids listened to the park ranger on how to be bear aware.
When the shuttle finally arrived, we loaded in and headed to the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
We were taken away by the beauty that laid before our eyes. The mountains and the valleys were SO HUGE! Im so glad that we took the shuttle up this road as we were able to enjoy the view and not worry about driving through such a narrow road. There are also limitations on size for vehicles on this road so be sure to check the park's website here if you are planning on towing a trailer or your RV. Pictures can hardly do it any justice but this is the most beautiful road Ive ever traveled on so far.
After such a beautiful drive we finally reached the continental divide at Logan's Pass. It was BEAUTIFUL! We decided to take a short round trip hike to the over look to see the lake. We saw mountain goats, marmots, and beautiful alpine summer meadows.
On our shuttle ride back to Apgar Visitor's Center we met some fellow hikers from New Mexico and had some great conversations about America's beauty.
When we got back to camp I started the chicken adobo and bok choy pork soup that Shane requested. We ate a good home cooked meal under the Montana sky....and had some smore's and ice cream next to our camp fire.
Sigh...I wish I could do this everyday...RV all over with my family and spend every moment with them like this.Labels: Fish Creek Campground, Glacier National Park, Going-to-the-Sun Road, Logan's Pass, Montana, West Glacier
