Whitewater Rafting on the Middle Fork

August 2016 - Summer Road Trip 2016 Part 3: Whitewater rafting on the Middle Fork

We woke early the next morning for a fun day ahead. We had booked a combination trip through Glacier Raft Company: White water rafting and horseback riding. We have never been white water rafting before and we were excited. We ate, got ready and headed to Glacier Raft Company near the entrance of West Glacier.

On the way there we had some time to admire the beautiful colors of the Middle Fork River.

We also got the see the famous red bus. Didnt ride it, though...took the free shuttle instead 😄!

After we checked in with the raft company, we boarded the bus and headed to the Middle Fork Flathead River.

As we pulled in to the loading area...I got nervous! We've never been on a whitewater rafting trip before. Thankfully, though, the rapids were not as strong for our first experience and we had a wonderful time! We also met some wonderful people on board our raft.

The highlight of our trip, however, was a duckie getting stuck on a rock and none of the rafts could get to them.

One lady finally built up the courage to slip free and send herself downriver in the cold cold water. The crew was able to catch her and get her into the raft. Finally the duckie gave in and slipped off the rock and the other lady was brought safely to the rest of us.

They wanted no more part in paddling in the duckie so they got in the rafts and Shane and Keoni took over from there. Thankfully, all ended well and everyone went home safely!

What a ride! Next we head back to our campsite, have lunch, then head over to Swan Mountain Outfitters for the second half of our adventure: horseback riding!
