Westport - Surfing on the coast of Washington

We hitched the trailer up and headed out to the West Coast. Westport, Washington was our destination and we had one thing in mind...surfing!

As transplants, when we think of surfing, we think of warm waters. But Washington offered us a different surfing experience -- think COLD, even in the middle of July.

The paddle out experience was also different. The waves just kept on coming in one after the other. And you don't paddle out and coast on your board in one spot to catch a wave either...instead, I found myself standing in one spot, holding the board and pushing it over the numerous waves, and then finally turning around and catching one. Nonetheless, it was very refreshing to be in the ocean and getting some vitamin sea.

We rented our boards from The Surf Shop. The boards and wet suits were perfect for the day out on the water. We would suggest getting there right at opening as they request that you return the items about 4:30 pm, a half hour or so before closing. That way you can get your moneys worth for the day rentals. We camped at American Sunset RV Resort. They also offer tent sites if you don't have an RV. The location is great and right down the road from the beach and the little town. They have a pool and play area for the kids which is always nice.

Back at camp Keoni showed off the skills he learned at wilderness survival camp the week before. Our best memories are made outside and today this weekend was one for the books.
