The drive to Mt. Rushmore from Devil's Tower, Wyoming was a beautiful one. Once again we were headed east on I90. We passed through Sturgis - the famous Harley Davidson rally town and Rapid City. The elevation gain from the town to Mt. Rushmore was crazy, especially towing. Slow and easy is how you want to do it. I remember Shane making a comment going up a steep grade, saying "I feel like Lucille Ball in the long long trailer movie..." I couldnt help but bust out laughing. It was true. It was like the movie. Although we had a 19ft trailer on this trip, it still seemed like a long haul towing it up there. Plus we were towing with our tahoe, which has a V8 and you can hear her gears going up those grades. Thankfully we now tow with an ecoboost V6 and it's a completely different experience. I'll never want to tow with a V8 again.
Mt. Rushmore was quite a patriotic experience! The work of art of that monument is absolutely spectacular, and so is the history behind it. It was hard to believe my family and I were there!
The museum is also jammed packed with a lot of history. This first hand experience is definitely a great way of learning history. Sometimes textbooks can get boring.
Before we left we had lunch in the parking lot at the trailer and rested for a bit before hitting the road again. Next stop...Buffalo, Wyoming - where we will spend the night and then head to Yellowstone National Park.
