Grateful are we that Crystal Mountain Ski Resort is just an hour and half away from home. But this winter season, we now have a travel trailer and so we decided to make it camp and ski weekend and tow our home away from home to Crystal Mountain. Given the great snowfall we've had here in the PNW, it was the perfect itinerary for a great time. We pulled in on Friday after work, got settled in and woke up to a beautiful ski resort as our backyard. The perks of having a travel trailer is being able to choose your backyard at any given time.
The camp host at Crystal Mountain was very helpful in getting us all the information we needed to get settled in and where to to park to avoid the boot fee - as you cant park across from your RV. That lot needs to be clear for snow plow in the morning.
Both Taylor and Keoni learned to ski and snowboard in 2014, at Lake Tahoe. Taylor wanted to ski and naturally Keoni wanted to snowboard. So we sent them to ski and snowboarding lessons. Today, they rip it on the mountain since we go every year. But this ski trip Taylor wanted to give snowboarding a try. So I sent her for a day's lesson so that she would learn the basics of control on the mountain - which was my biggest concern and why I always send my kids to lessons initially (and because they are more receptive to receive instruction from someone other than us lol).
So I made her a deal and said she would ski with me on Saturday, then on Sunday I would put her in a snowboarding lesson, and on Monday, if she enjoyed snowboarding, she could snowboard again. After skiing on Saturday, I could tell she was excited for her lessons the next day. She couldnt stop talking about the schedule for check in and asking her daddy all these questions since he was a snowboarder. She even went to bed early to assure she would be well rested to get up and check in at 8am.
Here she is waiting right out where we were camped for the shuttle.
Here is daddy wishing her a good day learning.
Picking up more skier/snowboarders
Oddly, our the shuttle got stuck on the icy roads and needed a tow.
Pono was able to join us on this winter camp - when we headed to Whistler back in December, he was in between ages to cross the boarder and have all of the necessary vaccinations.
Dain and Jayven joined us on Sunday on the mountain top.
Lunch break from lesson. Taylor and I headed back to the trailer for some lunch and to tell me all about her day so far.
After lessons - she wanted to go on the lifts and try her hand (or shall I say feet) at snowboarding. She asked to go on some green runs and one blue run! She managed fairly well for her first try at snowboarding! I was really impressed.
However, at the end of the day - she was so exhausted from getting up and down from her snowboard and putting the bindings on and off, that she decided to stick to skiing! Selfishly I am super happy about that - I thought I lost my skiing buddy there for a second!! I guess she's just used to ripping it down the mountain slopes on blue and black runs that she didnt want to take forever to get down a run 😂
So on our last day we skied and Shane snowboarded. It was a beautiful day!
My ski bud!
After an epic day on the slopes, we headed back to the trailer, ate dinner and hitched up to go home.
Mahalo Ke Akua for an amazing weekend well spent on the slopes. Amene.
